Doug Reyes is a ceramic artist originally from Indiana and attended Savannah College of Art & Design. After several years of travel and making personal art in a variety of mediums, he eventually re-entered academia and enrolled in classes at the John Herron School of Art, attached to IUPUI in Indianapolis. It was there that Reyes found his voice in ceramics. Clay enabled him to express himself as no other medium had previously done. When he earned his BFA there, Reyes was chosen for the Emerging Artist Program at the Winter Park Art Fair in Florida.
Reyes’s work focuses on an obsession with form and a search towards ideals of perfection, beauty and simplicity. His shapes are inspired, among other things, by industry, a direct response to the industrial wastelands of his Midwestern adolescence. He has shown regularly in galleries in Chicago since 2011, as well as internationally. He is currently represented in Illinois by Gallery19. Reyes has active collectors and his work is in private collections across the United States, including that of the actor Steve Martin. He currently lives and works in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
